The Best Made Plans…

So, yesterday we made the effort to get out for the day - decided to drive down to the coast and spend the day in Piran.  It’s a beautiful little fishing village down on the peninsular; you can look to the left and see Croatia, to the right, Italy.  We’ve been a few times since we’ve lived here, very picturesque and some great restaurant’s too.  

Alas, it just wasn’t to be.  Ten minutes after setting off we were stationary on the motorway.  Crawling along, we barely got above 10 mph.  Hot, hungry and getting extremely fed up and no escape as the nearest junction was 8 long miles away.  Two and half hours later we were pulling the car back on the driveway at home.

All was not completely lost though, we headed straight into the city for some much needed refreshment.   Sitting by the river in the sunshine is always a winner; simple pleasures.  Best of all though, was stumbling upon an Italian market that was just setting up for the evening.  Wonderful selection of goods, and the home-made chocolates rounded the day off perfectly :)
