Author Blog Challenge - Day 6

Prompt: With more than 800 million unique visitors a month, YouTube is one of the most popular search engines. Do you have a YouTube channel? Have you made a book trailer for your book? If not, what kind of book trailer would you like to make for your book? Do you have a video camera? If you do and you’re not posting short videos, you’re missing out on a huge marketing opportunity. It’s especially useful if you’re trying to reach a global audience, as 70 percent of YouTube viewers are in countries other than the U.S. If regular video posts are still on your To-Do list, what are some of the most clever video posts you’ve seen, and how might you do something similar to promote your books or yourself as an author? Be sure to give us the link to your YouTube channel.

Not being someone who is comfortable in front of a camera I have not made, and cannot imagine that I would ever make, a book trailer.  They seem to be getting mentioned a lot here and there but I have yet to learn whether they are actually a successful marketing tool.  It certainly wouldn’t cross my mind to log on to youtube to look for book recommendations.  They are though, (if made well) quite possibly a good idea.  Images are more powerful than words, and coupled with the right music/sound effects could make an impact and grasp someone’s attention in a fraction of a second, rather than need them to invest a few minutes to read a synopsis.

800 million users per month is a whopping amount of hits, but I’ve always been under the impression that most people who log on to youtube are just looking for animals doing funny things.  Speaking of which, here is my favourite…
